What to Expect at DashX
Your first class will be welcoming, engaging, and hands-on! Here's everything you need to know to feel prepared and excited for your STEM learning adventure.
Your First Class Experience
Welcome & Introductions
We start with friendly introductions and a brief overview of what we'll be learning together. No pressure - just getting to know each other!
Hands-On Activities
We dive straight into practical activities - no long lectures! You'll be building, experimenting, and discovering from day one.
Understanding Concepts
We explore the "why" behind experiments in fun, engaging ways. Questions are encouraged and mistakes are learning opportunities!
What to Bring
Science Classes
Students are expected to bring the following to every class:
Can borrow if needed
Additional materials may be required for individual lessons. Check lesson plans each week to see if any extra materials are needed.
Robotics Classes
Mac or Windows - iPads won't work
Limited laptops available to borrow
💡 Laptop Requirements:
Nothing fancy is needed - any laptop, new or even very old, will work. Students will build and keep a project each term!
Safety First
DashX takes safety very seriously. We spend considerable time researching experiments that are both engaging and safe for young children to perform.
Eye Protection
Safety glasses provided when required. You may bring your own for comfort.
Hearing Protection
Recommended for students sensitive to loud noises. Please bring your own if needed.
Hand Protection
Rubber gloves provided when handling certain chemicals.
Hair Safety
Long hair must be tied back. Spare hair ties available if needed.
Clothing
Old clothes recommended. We use chemicals that can stain. Aprons available.
Lesson Plans
Safety requirements clearly indicated in each week's lesson plan.
